Dinner at the Mach Household/ Photographing the Pupils - Part XI

While we were preparing dinner last night, Anita whispered '...love you very much.' I smiled, and then turned to give her a kiss, only to discover she was talking about the frozen package of shrimp she was defrosting. I kid you not. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or be jealous that she was whispering romantic sweet nothings to a 1 pound frozen block of home-wrecking prawns, while I was clearly within earshot. Sigh... at least I know what to buy her for X-mas now.

Anyways, I taught my last photo class of the year the previous week, and a few of my students volunteered to sit for a set of portraits, shot with the Hasselblad 500CM on Ilford HP5+. It now seems appropriate for me to say that "I love these so much."

Barfageddon 2 - Analog Edition

Alright folks, we leave for Tibet next Saturday, so this should be the last time I pollute your feeds for the next few weeks. Commence your happy dance.

Just wanted to share some of the film and polaroid photos from Barfageddon 2. They get progressively blurrier, due in part to the light getting low, and then you know... GIN. One of my favourite conversations from the evening involved the game of 'The best things in life start with the letter X.' Scott started us off with B: Booze, boobs, butts, bacon, BJ's, Black Sabbath. And that was countered by Dean with F: Fighting, Farting, F*cking, and Filanthropy. (That last one made me laugh pretty hard).

Drumheller - August 2016

Nearly 25 years ago, my parents took us to Drumheller on a family vacation to see the dinosaur fossils at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Fast forward to the present, and I got to reverse roles and be the one to take them there this time. I've gone back to this museum four times in the past six years, and it never gets old. It evokes memories of my youth, and while wandering around snapping photos, I always get curious stares from people as they wonder why anyone would use such pre-historic era film cameras anymore.

I've posted a handful of digital vs. film vs. polaroid shots below. Digital shots (colour) taken with the Fuji X-T1. B&W film shots taken with the Hasselblad 500CM on Ilford HP5+. Polaroid shots with the SX-70 on Impossible Project colour film.

6x6 - The One Roll Series

I started a little project this weekend, where I drew up a variety of sometimes divisive or controversial topics on signs, and asked people to write their short opinions on them. I was really hoping for some more incendiary positions, but the closest I got to conflict was Scott's daughter calling me a clown. These were taken yesterday as part of our "6x6 - One Roll Series" project, whereby we agreed to all shoot one roll of 6x6 120 format B&W film over the course of the day. All shot with the Hasselblad 500CM and 80mm Planar on Ilford HP5+ 400, souped in Ilfosol 3, 1+9 at 68 deg. F for 6:30.
